Commander Playmats

Created by Josh Krause

Officially Licensed Magic: the Gathering Playmats for some of the most popular Commanders in the game.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Niv-Mizzet, Karn, and More
over 5 years ago – Tue, Nov 06, 2018 at 06:32:57 AM

I'm back from my travels and it's time to share the last two unlocked Playmats!

Mmmmm those look good.

Artist Signature Update

As luck would have it, just prior to starting this update, I received final confirmation from Mark Zug and Jason Chan that they would be willing to sign all of the mats for the project.

That means all of the Zedruu, Karn, and Mayael mats will be signed by the artists!

13th Playmat

In the next update, hopefully coming some time tomorrow, I will be including a link to vote on the last playmat to be unlocked at $15,000.  We're already less than $1,000 away, so hopefully we will hit it before we get into the final 72 hour rush.

Here are the options that will be available for voting:

  • Atraxa, Praetor's Voice
  • Doran, the Siege Tower
  • Emmara, Soul of the Accord
  • Grimgrin, Corpse-Born
  • Horde of Notions
  • Jaya Ballard, Task Mage
  • Najeela, the Blade-Blossom
  • Xantcha, Sleeper Agent
We will also have the option for you to add in your own suggestion.  The only cavaet is that it be a Commander illustrated by one of the artists we work with.  You can check the potentially available Commanders here.

Thanks,

Josh Krause

What a Difference a Day Makes - 2 Stretch Goals Unlocked!
over 5 years ago – Mon, Nov 05, 2018 at 10:12:35 AM

What a day!

I woke up hoping that we'd unlock Meren, but you all blew away my expectations and unlocked Meren AND Oloro, Ageless Ascetic AND got us less than $500 away from unlocking the extended art, custom Muldrotha, the Gravetide.

Wait, did someone say, extended art Muldrotha?  I sure did!

In preparation for this project, I worked with Jason Rainville to extend the art on his Muldrotha painting to avoid the crop they used for the GP mats.

For the first time, with the help of this project, everyone will be able to enjoy the graveyard shenanigans of Muldrotha in her full Elemental glory.

While we're still a bit away from unlocking Muldrotha, there is a certain Legendary Giant Soldier that wants to say "Hello":

Thanks to your support, the control player's friendly giant buddy is here to stay.

That's all for now, but I'll have an update again tomorrow that, in addition to likely including an unlocked Muldrotha, should be pretty exciting for many of you.

Thanks for your amazing support,

Josh

Another Stretch Goal Down, Another One Soon to Follow
over 5 years ago – Mon, Nov 05, 2018 at 10:12:27 AM

Happy First Weekend of the Project!

Early Friday morning we crossed the $8,000 mark and officially unlocked the extended art Muldrotha, the Gravetide Playmat.

I'm so glad that Jason Rainville agreed to put the extra work in and create something unique for the Kickstarter.

As it stands now, after another 24 hours of backers joining up, we are only $50 away from unlocking the next Stretch Goal: Marchesa, the Black Rose.

I know several of you have been waiting to hit this Stretch Goal and I'm so glad that we've been able to make it here so quickly.  We couldn't have done it without your help.

Once we pass this next milestone, we will have one of the most stunning mats yet to unlock: Mayael, the Anima by Jason Chan

I've wanted to make this mat since I started working with Jason last year, but I had to wait until this project for it to be possible.

Mayael is an amazing and fun Commander, but she makes an even better Playmat.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and I will have more news for you soon.

Thanks,

Josh

New Reward Level for the Playmat Fanatic
over 5 years ago – Mon, Nov 05, 2018 at 10:12:20 AM

After receiving several requests for an additional Reward Level for dedicated Playmat collectors, I've run the numbers and am ready to roll it out for the project.

Warning, it's not for the faint of heart.

That's right, we're planning for the end game and giving you a deal in the process.

With this reward level, you will be able to select 13 mats of your choice.  One of each is an obvious option, but you can mix and match to your heart's desire.

Want the same 13 Nekusars pictured here?  You got it.  No judgement.

While we only have 9 mats available so far, I am confident that we will be able to get the rest before the project ends. We're certainly trending that way at a good pace.

Disclaimer - New mats take up to 8 weeks to get printed, so there is a chance that the 13th mat will not be shipped out until January, depending on which mat is chosen by you, the backers.  We have several additional mats already in various stages of production that would make the December date, so hopefully this will not be an issue, but I want to make sure you are aware of this if you want to get one of each Playmat made for the project.

Thanks for your continued support,

Josh

Artist Signed Playmats Update
over 5 years ago – Mon, Nov 05, 2018 at 10:12:14 AM

Hey all,

Yesterday, we passed the $11k mark and unlocked the marvelous Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind by Todd Lockwood.

I am traveling this weekend so I will share the unlocked Playmat image when I get back to my computer.

Next up, and already less then $750 away, is Karn, Silver Golem by Mark Zug.

Signed Playmats

I have received several requests to have the mats signed for this project.  I had already arranged that for Peter Mohrbacher’s Animar mats, and we have since got more artists on board.

Oloro will be signed by Eric Deschamps, Nekusar and Meren will be signed by Mark Winters, and Karador, Prossh, and Niv-Mizzet will be signed by Todd Lockwood.

Those are all the artists we have confirmed so far and we hope to get as many as we can.

13th Mystery Mat

I will be sharing more info on how this mat will be selected in the next update.

All backers will be able to vote on the last mat and we’ve got a bunch already in the pipeline as options, along with all of the artists we work with currently.

If there is a mat that you are hoping for, let me know here.  If there is a clear consensus pick, I will see if we can get it added as an option for voting.

Thanks,

Josh
